Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is used to investigate a wide range of external flows, from the atmospheric flow conditions affecting building ventilation systems to the highly compressible aerodynamic phenomena associated with high speed aircraft.

TriVista Engineering has the capability to provide cost-effective CFD and, as experienced development engineers, our project involvement is rarely limited to the analysis alone.  We routinely work alongside clients to find flow solutions that are realistic and offer genuine commercial benefits.

CFD provides a wealth of data for evaluating external flow features and performance, these include:

  • Velocity and pressure field distributions, for instance to predict and control drag and lift.
  • Flow loading forces to ensure structural integrity.
  • Removal rates of contaminants and pollutant emissions.
  • Flow heating and cooling rates and related thermal effects.
  • Visualisation of fluid flow over surfaces.

Typical applications in which external flow analysis is of value include:

  • Automotive vehicles - improve fuel economy, reduce noise, evaluate style changes, enhance cooling
  • Aircraft - reduce fuel requirements, ensure adequate control, extend range
  • HVAC - improve effectiveness, minimise losses, eliminate hot/cold spots and stagnation areas.

TriVista uses the latest ANSYS CFX products to evaluate and improve designs involving external flows.  The effective integration of CFD with our other services enables a complete engineering package if required.
